Privacy Policy

Joshuarussell.co is my personal journal. I’m Joshua Russell, and I run this site. This page explains what information is handled when you read it or contact me.

Reading the site

You can read without submitting your name or email address. I have disabled Google Analytics through MonsterInsights and Jetpack Stats, and removed the OptinMonster integration. Comments on posts and pages are closed. The contact form is optional.

This does not mean a visit leaves no technical record. Bluehost hosts the site, and Jetpack provides security and image delivery. These services may process your IP address, browser and device information, requested pages or files, referring page, access times, and security events to deliver the site, diagnose problems, and prevent abuse.

Cookies and outside services

WordPress uses cookies for login and administration. Hosting and security services may also use cookies needed to operate or protect the site. You can manage or delete cookies in your browser; blocking them may affect functions such as signing in. Disabling an integration does not automatically erase cookies it previously placed in your browser.

Some images are delivered through Jetpack’s image service, which receives the technical information needed to serve them. If a post includes content hosted elsewhere, such as a video, that provider may receive information when the content loads and may use its own cookies. Links to other websites take you to services with their own privacy practices.

Read more in Bluehost / Newfold’s privacy information and Automattic’s notice for visitors to sites using Jetpack.

If you contact me

When you use the contact form, I receive your name if supplied, email address, and message. The form also records technical details such as your IP address and submission time. I use this information to read and respond to messages and handle abuse. Jetpack processes the form; submissions are stored in WordPress, sent to my Yahoo Mail inbox, and may be synced with Automattic. Please do not send passwords, financial account details, or other sensitive information.

Older information and retention

I use UpdraftPlus to keep recovery copies of the site in Google Drive. These backups can include site content, uploaded files, settings, contact form submissions, and older comment details.

Closing comments did not delete earlier submissions. Older comments and their associated details—including names, email addresses, website addresses, IP addresses, and browser information where recorded—may remain in the site database and backups. Contact form submissions may remain in WordPress, email records, and backups.

There is currently no fixed automatic deletion schedule for these older records or correspondence. Copies may also remain in backups after information is removed from the live site. Hosting and service providers control the retention of records held in their systems under their own policies.

Privacy questions and requests

You can ask what personal information I hold about you, request a copy, or ask for correction or deletion through the contact form. I may need to verify that the request concerns your own information. Some records may need to be retained for security or legal reasons. Your applicable rights depend on where you live.

I’ll update this page when the site’s practices change.
